Herb Alpert is an American musician, songwriter, and record executive who is best known for his work as the leader of the Tijuana Brass, a popular instrumental group in the 1960s. He was born on March 31, 1935, in Los Angeles, California.
Alpert’s career began in the late 1950s when he began performing as a trumpet player and songwriter. In the early 1960s, he formed the Tijuana Brass and released a string of successful albums, including “Whipped Cream & Other Delights,” which featured the hit song “A Taste of Honey.”
In addition to his work with the Tijuana Brass, Alpert has had a successful solo career, releasing many albums as a solo artist and collaborating with other musicians.
Alpert is also a successful record executive and co-founded A&M Records in 1962, which became one of the most successful independent record labels of all time. A&M Records was home to many popular artists, including The Carpenters, Cat Stevens, and Janet Jackson.
Throughout his career, Alpert has won numerous awards, including nine Grammy Awards and the National Medal of Arts. He remains an influential figure in the music industry and continues to perform and record music to this day.
